Ross Williams is returning as the 2023-24 Head Coach.  Assistant coaches are Sam Holmes and David Slette.

We are pleased to have Ross Williams returning in the Head Coach position for the SSC High School Race Team this year.  Ross took over that position in 2022-23 season; previously he had been with us for a couple years as an assistant coach and our Head Wax Tech.  Ross is also the current Head Coach for the Great Lakes Division Junior National Team.  When forced to give us a quick bio of his skiing life he offered:

Like most Nordic skiers, I grew up in a skiing family.  As soon as I could stand on my own, my parents had me on skis.  I jumped in to my first Junior VASA when I was 6 and the post race cookies and hot cocoa had me hooked.  From there, as I got older, racing became more serious.

I was the 2011 Michigan State Champion and was able to qualify for 7 Junior National trips.  After my Junior career was over I started coaching with the VASA Ski Club.  After a few years there, I was offered a dream job in Marquette working for someone I have always admired and respected.  The added benefit of having much better snow conditions and the chance to be involved with the SSC sealed the deal.

I have been able to attend 4 Junior National Championships as a wax tech and coach and hope to keep giving our skiers the chance to get to the next level of racing.

Ross has quickly become an important part of the racing and coaching community in Michigan, and our Great Lakes Division.  We look forward to having him with us for years to come.
