VOLUNTEERS!
Volunteers are essential for the very existence of the Ski Club and for every Club program, special event or fund raiser.
Volunteers assist with on snow events (above) and cleaning up after the Lake Superior Shore Run (at side)
Ski parents, our high school skiers and community member volunteers support Club programs and events with their time and energy. Some of the things our wonderful volunteers do are:
Teach, encourage and supervise young skiers
Help swap shoppers choose the right size and type of gear
Mark race courses
Man aid stations and refreshment tables
Assist race timers, keep track of finishers, and collect race bibs
Contact sponsors
Design race awards and shirts
Staff the Ore to Shore beer tent
Superiorland Ski Club volunteers also show up to support the Ore to Shore mountain bike race by staffing the final aid station and beer tent.
There are volunteer opportunities throughout the year – on snow, outside in the summer sun and even indoors. Many volunteers spend just a few hours once or twice a year making sure an important event is successful, while others make season long commitments. Volunteer positions are available for Youth Programs (including coaching and assistant coaching), the Ore to Shore Aid Station and Beer Tent, Ski and Bike Swaps and The Lake Superior Shore Run among other things.
We need you! If you are interested in volunteering or want more information on ways to help, contact Jennifer Bruggink at superiorlandskiclub@gmail.com.
Volunteers who commit to working with our on-snow youth instruction or training activities on a regular basis need to be SSC members and join US Ski and Snowboarding through the CXC (Central Cross Country Skiing) website, complete Safe Sport training and undergo a background check. Safe Sport training from another USSA organization is likely to transfer over. We have a thorough guide to the process, but prospective program volunteers must discuss volunteering with the appropriate coach. Ski Cat coaches who assist for the majority of the season will be reimbursed for a Ski Cat registration.
